About Dogwood Chapter

The  Dogwood Chapter is an affiliate chapter of the Smocking Arts Guild of America (SAGA) serving the Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas.  We are a chapter that offers something for every type of stitcher and sewer!  We meet monthly on the first Thursday of the month for our Monthly Meetings.  Annually, our chapter hosts nationally known teachers for educational workshops and seminars.

The purpose of the Smocking Arts Guild of America (SAGA) is to preserve and foster the art of smocking and related needlework through education, communication, and quality workmanship. Members receive a quarterly newsletter and have an opportunity to take correspondence courses and attend national conventions.

Skills Development

Each year our Dogwood Chapter offers hands-on education workshops and seminars where nationally and internationally known needlework instructors come to Charlotte and offer multi-day programs.  These are an exciting and challenging way to build skills as well as knowledge.

Community Service

The Wee Care Gown project is an on-going community service project for our guild. The Wee Care Gowns are donated to the NICUs of hospitals as well as to Be Not Afraid ministry for use as burial gowns for families that have experienced a loss at birth.

Each Dogwood Chapter member volunteers to make least two gown per year. Gowns are collected all year long and members are encouraged to make several. Fabric and patterns are available through the guild, however, members can also provide their own fabric.  Find out more about Wee Care here.
