Debbie Glenn Workshop 2025
Debbie Glenn's
Heirloom Butterfly Kisses
Hosted by SAGA Dogwood
Friday Jan 24 and
Saturday Jan 25, 2025
"Charmed by a tattered pastel motif on a circa 1920's garment found at the Portobello Road flea market in London, Debbie designed this precious little smocked bishop style baby gown. Delicate silken butterflies flutter in between the smocked channels on the front of this whisper soft silky satin batiste confection.
On day 1 of this 12-hour class, students learn how to add flat sections for embroidery to smocking, tie off individual pleated areas on a pre-pleated gown front, smock along channels using simple geometric stitches and transform snippets of pastel silk ribbon into butterflies.
On day 2 Debbie discusses block construction, shares her unique method for applying tiny bias bands to smocking, perfect French seams, plus a magical method of applying lace edging and insertion using fusible thread. Students will have the opportunity to make reference samples of these techniques and continue construction of their own gowns. Nothing could be sweeter than spending 2 days making an heirloom version of Butterfly Kisses for a special new baby!"
